It may be warm and sunny outside but it’s time to get cosy inside, as the interior design world gets ready for the winter. Country heritage is a key trend for a/w 2013 with inspiration coming from traditional British styles, so think checked patterns, fox and deer cushions and accessories for a classic royal, hunting vibe for the really posh. This trend has cropped up before a few years ago, in a red and green colour way but this time around the colour palette has been updated. Now choose from a more subtle and invigorating blend of burnt oranges and rich browns, contrasted with khaki and dark greens for a striking autumnal feel.
Books, Books, Books
Go geek chic and style your home in books. This trend is easy and can create a really striking look, even if you’re not a book worm. Books are the in thing, so stock up at your local charity shop or car boot sale, and pile up for an eye-catching vintage display.
Don’t be Afraid to Experiment
Be creative and experiment with different sizes and colours (old hard back covers are best) and pop a lamp on top for a quirky look. Then sit back, relax and watch the compliments come pouring in. Or try out some book print wallpaper as a feature in the living room or study, to create your very own library corner. Perfect for popping an armchair and floor lamp in for a stunning place to unwind at the end of the day.
Vintage Home Accessories
To finish the country heritage look off to perfection, accessorise with vintage style trunks and suitcases. Add plenty of gold for a regal look and to add extra warmth to the orange colour scheme. Keep an eye out for retro inspired home wears and head to Debenhams for a variety of British themed finishing touches.
As for fabrics, knitted is best with its distinctive vintage feel and luscious touch. If you’re crafty get knitting and make your own unique blanket, or if you’re like me and don’t know one end of a knitting needle to the other then head to the high street and check out BHS’ vintage collection for a range of superbly soft throws to snuggle up in.
Complete the Look with Big Cushions and Prints
Then complete the look with piles of fluffy cushions. Checked patterns and animals are key for this trend, so combine deer and fox printed designs with clashing checks and stripes for the wow factor. The knitted trend also is big for cushions so make sure to include a few cable knit styles to match that gorgeous knitted throw (bought or made, I will leave that one up to you).
